Don’t waste your time on revenge. Those who hurt you will eventually face their own karma.

The revenge of Grendel’s mother begins in the night. “Monstrous hell-bride, brooded on her wrongs” (Heaney, 89). Is the revenge always a bad thing? I suppose the revenge is always the first thing people think when someone else does something wrong to you. However, I do not thing a revenge is the best way to react. Christ said “do not do to others what you would not like them to do to you.” But, unfortunatly, not all the people listen at Him and bad things happen. I strongly believe in the karma’s action: if someone does something bad to you, you just need to wait and someone or something else will punish him or her. What do you think about karma? Do you believe in it? Grendel is a moster and plagued Heorot, then he was killed by Beowulf. Grendel’s mother avenged the death of her son, as every mother would problaby would like to do. But we are humans not monsters and I think the most intelligent thing one can do is: go on with the life and the karma will do its job. The wheel turns. On page 97 Beowulf said “it is always better to avenge dear ones than to indulge in mourning.” Problably, the revenge makes people feeling better, but it is not because the dear is still missing. You can not avenge the lack of a dear person. Everyone reacts in different way, but Christ knows who did right and who did wrong and if you do not believe in Him there will be something else which will see to it.

  1. It’s interesting to include elements from different religions/philosophies together as you do here with Christ and karma. However, I agree that it’s best to just try to be the best person you can be, no matter what reason or name you give to it. And revenge doesn’t go well with being a good human being!
